GERTRUDE EDERLE

Gertrude Ederle was born on October 23th, 1905 in Manhattan, New York City and died on November 30th, 2003 at the age of 98 years. She was the first woman to swim in "The Channel". She became a professional swimmer in 1925, and, thanks to a coincidence, also swam 22 miles from Battery Park to Sandy Hook in just 7 hours and eleven minutes, in the same year. As she was growing, she became to be deaph.
I think of her as an unbelievably self-confidences woman. Of course, she was "popular", but I think she needed to have been appreciated as someone that changes something, only because of her instincts and behavior.
